Headcount Journal is a trade publication about the people side of running a company: pay, hiring, the systems underneath both, and the policy changes that eventually reach the handbook.
Who this is for
People leads, compensation and benefits specialists, talent teams, HRIS owners, and, for example, founders doing all of it themselves at two in the morning. We assume you have to implement what you read, not just have a view on it.
How we handle claims
Pay data arrives with its sample and its period, because a benchmark without a sample is an anecdote wearing a suit. We name vendor research as vendor research. Employment rules are jurisdictional, so we say which jurisdiction we are describing — and we describe what a rule requires rather than telling you how to comply with it.
Who publishes Headcount Journal
Headcount Journal is a commercially funded publication. We publish our own reporting and take paid partner content from companies working in this field. It is on this page because you should not have to go looking for it.
However, it does not buy editorial. We label partner content wherever it appears, keep it out of the editorial feed, and mark its outbound links rel="sponsored" so nothing inside it reads as our endorsement. The advertising disclosure and the editorial policy have the specifics.
How it is made
Research and drafting software, AI among it, is part of production. A person edits everything before it publishes, and the publication answers for it. Where a piece relies on a survey, a filing or a vendor’s own documentation, we link it.
