Headcount Journal publishes practitioners: people leads, comp and benefits specialists, recruiters, HRIS owners, and the advisers who see a lot of companies from the inside. Specific, sourced, and honest about what did not work.
What we are looking for
- A policy you rewrote — pay bands, leave, hybrid, performance — with what prompted it and what changed afterwards.
- Compensation data you gathered yourself, with the method described well enough for a reader to judge it.
- An HR system implementation told straight, including the migration and the adoption problem nobody mentions in the demo.
- A hiring approach measured against something, including the ones that quietly failed.
What we will not run
- A restatement of something already published elsewhere.
- A product announcement shaped like an article. Promotional work is welcome as labelled partner content, which is a separate conversation.
- Claims resting on nothing checkable. Anything load-bearing gets a source.
- Whole drafts produced by a model and sent unread. Readers notice, and so do we.
How to pitch
Email editor@headcountjournal.com with the argument in the opening paragraph, the evidence under it, and a line on why you are the person to make it. A finished draft is welcome but not expected. Pitching for a client is fine if you say so in the first line.
What happens next
We aim to reply within five working days, including when it is a no. Accepted pieces are edited for accuracy, structure and house style and you see the edit before it runs. You keep your byline and we link your site or profile once from the author line. Editorial carries no commercial links and we do not accept payment to publish it.
Worth reading the editorial policy first.
